WBO and WBC middleweight champion of the world Kelly Pavlik (34-0 30 KO's) put his belts on the line Saturday night in Atlantic City against Welshman Gary Lockett (30-2). Pavlik was coming off his win against former champion Jermaine Taylor which was one of last years most compelling fights. Lockett was a heavy underdog coming in despite being the number one ranked mandatory fighter in the weight class. Pavlik wasted no time picking apart Lockett in the first round. Lockett was forced down to a knee twice during the first round while suffering a series of cuts. He was saved by the bell in the end of round one and Pavlik wasted no time at all finishing Lockett early in the second round. Pavlik landed some more punishing shots which took Lockett to a kneel for the final time in the fight. There are a few different options for a super fight match-up for Pavlik at the end of this year. One thing is clear Pavlik will take on anyone who will step into the ring with him. "Whoever they throw in front of me." Who have I turned down? Nobody," Pavlik said in his post fight interview. It is also clear that the sport will definitely be needing another super fight with the recent retirement of Floyd Mayweather and the cancellation of his September 20th rematch with Oscar De La Hoya.
